Despite a large number of towns and cities, much of Britain is decidedly rural and we have numerous national parks in addition to swathes of green belt countryside.

City breaks may attract other couples. Sightseeing and clubbing in a city may be your idea of a romantic fun weekend.

Doing something unusual that you have never ever experienced before may please you. There is a high demand for unusual self-catering accommodation in tree houses, windmills, on houseboats, in yurts and teepees,  in converted farm buildings and so on.

And lastly, there are the adrenalin junkies who need excitement. Perhaps a surfing weekend in Cornwall satisfies that need, or coasteering, sailing, hang gliding or canoeing. Various places up and down the country offer courses in all these exciting sports.  Nothing cements relationships faster than the stress and excitement of joint challenges.

My personal idea of a romantic break is a stay in a beautiful olde worlde thatched cottage in the New Forest with a window out onto woodland where ponies and badgers often visit. To spend time with a glass of wine in hand watching wild life is a pleasurable rewarding experience.  I love walks in the woods, spotting wild flowers and enjoying birdsong and wind in my hair followed by lunch in a country pub with a big open fire and lots of nooks and crannies.  It is just as well that we are all different otherwise the New Forest would be overrun with lovers creating a completely different type of tourist destination!
