Find a good place to stay in Edinburgh

Edinburgh holidays

A holiday rental can be a very good place to stay if you are planning a trip to Scotland to see Edinburgh and the central belt. A self-catered apartment or holiday cottage provides you with a temporary holiday home to call your own, somewhere safe, warm and secure to sleep at nights and store your possessions. The good thing about staying in a holiday rental is that you will have the means to cook and make yourself snacks because you will have cooking and food storage facilities in the kitchen. Staying in a hotel or B&B can be so much more expensive when you have to pay for each drink. In self-catered accommodation, you buy in what you need and can then enjoy umpteen cups of coffee or something a little stronger, when you like and as often as you like.

Inevitably, the more your pay, the higher the quality of your self-catered holiday accommodation in Edinburgh. The trick is to find a place to stay near where you plan to spend most time sightseeing so that it cuts down on travel and just select accommodation according to the facilities it has.

Stay in Edinburgh Old Town

Edinburgh Old Town

If you plan to spend most of your break in central Edinburgh and the Old Town, book holiday apartments in the Old Town itself. Be warned that it is virtually impossible to find anywhere to park in the old historic part of Edinburgh, so only do this if you’re going to leave the car at home, otherwise opt for a cottage within driving distance.

Pine lodge holidays with a hot tub near Edinburgh

The idea of a pine lodge holiday near Edinburgh where you have a private hot tub might sound nice but only choose that is you can envisage yourself actually using that hot tub.Booking a place to stay within an hour’s drive of Edinburgh could be an excellent thing to do if you intend visiting several places in East Lothian with just a couple of trips into the city of Edinburgh. It’s not worth trying to drive into the centre because there is so little parking. You could park on the outskirts of Edinburgh using Park and Ride, make the journey less stressful and avoid parking fees.

Edinburgh is a fabulous city to visit, it’s most attractive and its historic heart is contained within a compact area that is easy to navigate on foot. Tourists flood the city for the Art Festival, Military Tattoo that takes place at Edinburgh Castle, the Fringe Festival and others during the warm summer months of July and August. You might enjoy thronged streets, busy restaurants and shopping centre, or you could visit later in the year, perhaps November for the Christmas Market or the big street party that is Hogmanay.
